Relax at our EcoPool

Imagine taking a dip in a mountain stream, only there’s wine nearby. That’s precisely what our EcoPool has to offer.

We are all fearfully aware of the number of chemicals needed to maintain a conventional swimming pool. On the other hand, our EcoPool is a self-sustaining solution that helps create a conservation area for aquatic life. Therefore, Rijk’s Hotel residents can submerge with a clear conscience, knowing that our pool isn’t harming the environment or your body and is kept crystal clear by a complex ecosystem of plants that filter the water.

Spot Some Wildlife

Quietly lurking in the vineyards and veld, you might be lucky to spot some of the wildlife we proudly have here on the farm. They are often very well camouflaged and hidden but sometimes if you are on an early morning stroll you might see some bokkies jumping about. Some of the animals we have on our farm include the steenbok, duikertjie, rabbits, mongese, porcupine and the very rare bat eared fox.

Bird Watching

Birdlife flourishes in Tulbagh and the surrounding areas. Bird-watchers should seize the opportunity to visit the numerous dams and lookout points to spot some bird life, such as the African Fish-Eagle, we call her California around here, and South African Shelduck. Because Tulbagh is part of a protected area, in an attempt to rehabilitate the renosterveld, it is certainly not uncommon to find threatened species such as the Black Harrier, Southern Black Korhaan and Secretarybird.

At our hotel you can find a bird-watching book to learn more about the birds in the area.

Fishing

For fish lovers, it is much more than just casting a hook into the water. Fishing often brings strangers together into friends. Our dams on the farm are filled with bass and carp. With three dams to choose from, Hotel guests are welcome to fish in our dams provided that the fish are returned into the dams. We unfortunately do not supply fishing rods. Guests to please bring their own along.

Mountain Biking

Tulbagh is fast becoming a hotspot for mountain biking. With trails all over the valley, winding through numerous farms, including our farm as well as many natural spaces, it’s easy to see why biking enthusiasts are flocking to the area. You can now pay for your permit at our Hotel reception and get ready for a different way to explore the little town we call home.

Hiking Trails

With Tulbagh’s beautiful mountain ranges, there is no shortage of breathtaking hikes. Explore one of the richest floral kingdoms in the world. All the walks in the area are between a 10min-20min drive from our farm. You can stop by the Tourism Office in Tulbagh to get your hiking permit.

Alternatively, we also have many walking and running trails all over our farm. Enjoy a stroll or a jog any time of the day.
